Having just finished reading Ronald Charles Hutton’s book and finding it so interesting that I read it through in one day, I would like to recommend it to others who might not have come across it yet.

Ronald writes in a very honest and sincere way, and although I have never met him, reading his book feels just like having a conversation with him. He begins by talking a bit about his personal history, and then talks about his experiences of spiritual healing and how he turned from a sceptic, only going along with it to keep his wife happy, to a convert.

Ronald touches on clairvoyance in his book, but mainly dedicates it to experiences of healing, giving and receiving, and astral journeys or OBE’s as he describes them. He talks about how he was used (willingly!) for healing and counselling while in sleep state, and describes some of his experiences.

Ronald also quotes texts from the Bible throughout the book and shows how messages written all that time ago are still relevant today because they are universal truths.

The book is written in a very simple way making it easy to understand and enjoyable in the same way as an interesting conversation with a friend is. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in hearing about other people’s spiritual experiences.

The name Easter comes from the Anglo Saxon Name for April, the month that Easter traditionally falls within, which is Eostre Monath. The meaning of that is “The month of openings” which of course relates to the season of Spring.

Spring is the time when those things planted in the earth (trees, bushes, flowers, vegetables etc.) begin to grow, and the world seems to regain its colour. So this time of year has become associated with new beginnings, not only for the things living in the earth, but also the animals that hibernate through the winter are waking up, the birds and many other animals are producing their babies, and people generally start to feel better, more positive, after the winter. This may be something to do with the return of sunnier days, and the sun’s beneficial effects on our health and feelings of wellbeing.

The month of April was named after the Anglo Saxon Goddess Esostre. She was associated with new beginnings and fertility. The Easter egg is a symbol of new life or new beginnings. The hare was a symbol of fertility, and has now become the Easter bunny.

We are now at a point in the year when we can think about our own lives in terms of the new beginnings we wish to have. If the energise of nature are supporting new growth, then surely this is as good a time as any for us to be thinking about the ways in which we wish to shed our old, out dated habits, ways and beliefs. It’s a good time to let go of past hurts, failures and disappointments. It can be a good time to think about ourselves and what we want from life, and to plan the next step in our personal development.

What do you want for Easter?

Records show that people have been giving meaning to colours for thousands of years, using them for bodily healing and emotional upliftment and as indications of status or of belonging.

Colours are formed from light being separated away from darkness into various different wavelengths and vibrational levels. Each colour has its own vibration. Objects that appear to be black absorb all the light that falls on them, where objects that show as white reflect or bounce back all the light that falls on them. The other colours are variations between these two.

It has been proved that everything has a vibration, including humans. Therefore if you take the vibration of the essence of us and blend in the vibration of a colour, perhaps by wearing it, it is likely that the two things will have an effect on each other.

Colours have been proved to have an emotional effect on humans. Most people if asked will identify the same colours as being warm or cold, or as feeling energising, uplifting, or calming.

There are a few different ways of using colour to heal and help ourselves. As already mentioned, we can wear the colours that we feel have the desired positive effect we require. For example, it red feels as though it is an energising, outgoing colour to wear, then a red jumper, or even a red tie, can give us just enough of the qualities we need to use in any situation where we want to feel confident and focused.

Another way we can use colour to enhance our lives it to use it to decorate our homes. For example, if someone finds blue a very relaxing colour, and they have a stressful life, they may choose to use their preferred shade of blue as part of the decoration of a room in their home that can be used for relaxation.

Flowers are a good way of using colour to enhance mood and promote physical healing. The vibration of the flower itself coupled with the colour often has a beneficial effect, so it is not by accident that we give and receive flowers in times of illness and bereavement.

For those who like to meditate, colours can form a part of the meditation routine by visualising the colours deliberately, or by allowing the colours to come to us through the freedom of letting the mind relax and experience the random thoughts that occur when we allow them to.

Some people choose coloured foods to help their physical and emotional wellbeing, perhaps adding a variety of colours to a meal, or maybe choosing just one or two colours for the meal to get an extra boost of whatever that colour does for them.

Although everyone will have their own unique way of using colour, and interpreting what those colours mean to them, a general indication of what colours mean follows.

Red = energy, power, assertiveness, the physical body.
Orange = emotions, tolerance, patience and emotional balance.
Yellow = the nervous system, upliftment, and developing the mind and intellect.
Green = calmness, stress relief, and energises the immune system
Blue = Understanding, calming the nervous system and general health and healing
Indigo = developing intuition, calming fears.
Violet = inner peace, inspiration and creativity.

Most spiritualist organisations accept that spirit guides exist, but different organisations have different theories as to who these are and how they work. Some claim that there are many guides and they change throughout a person’s life time, according to the work they are involved with. Some claim that each person has only one spirit guide, but other spirit helpers come in to help at particular times in a person’s life. This means that one helper would be able to help many people.

Some spiritualist organisations identify spirit guides according to their nationality or role in their life time on earth. Often North American Indians, Nuns, Zulu Warriors etc. will be offered as a way of identifying a particular guide. This not only helps the person to identify and connect with their guide, it also indicates what that guide may come to help with, and how the guide may be able to teach the person they are attached to.

Some people who work for spirit claim they are unable to get any real information about their guide, but that they know there is a guide helping them. This could be because they don’t need to know any more than that, while another person may feel more comfortable knowing a name for their guide and something about who is helping them.

Guides are usually recognised as people who have lived on the earth at some time, or maybe many life times, and are spirits that are more evolved than the person they come to help. Sometimes guides are recognised as members of the person’s family, such as a grandparent, or even a parent, who comes to walk beside the person to help them.

There is as yet no way of scientifically proving that guides exist, but many people who work for and with spirit feel that they have enough proof within their own lives not to need approval or confirmation from anyone else, scientific or not. When this is the case, it doesn’t seem to matter which of the theories is accepted, the end result is the same. Having a guide to guide you is definitely an advantage in life, even more so if you know about it.

Some numerologists and astrologers have suggested that the world will end on 21st December 2012. They have based this on analysis of the formation of the planets in relation to the earth on this date, and also on various numerological interpretations, based around the date.

It has also been suggested that the end of a cycle of 5125 years in a particular calendar system used by the Mayans. This calendar is known as the Mesoamerican Long count Calendar.

Some pinpoint the date as signifying the beginning of the Aquarian age and the end of the Piscean age, this shift in energy bringing new influences upon the world.

Another interpretation which has been suggested by various spiritual organisations is that rather than being the end of the world for mankind and for the Earth in a catastrophic manner, it is the end of the world as we have known it. A spiritual transformation will take place which will signal the beginning of a new, more spiritually enlightened time, in which we will all begin to take better care of the Earth, each other and our selves.

As we think about the world in its current state, it is evident that some changes are taking place that seem to affect every place on earth, specifically the world wide economic difficulties, and the disappearance or relieving of many of the world’s dictators and dictator systems. These changes will force a review of the way things have been done and re evaluation of governments and organisations which have power to make and change rules and laws.

If you have any views or information which help to answer the question posed in the title, 2012 the end or the beginning, please comment below so we can publish them.

The law of attraction is all about finding what we focus our attention on. It is logical that we attract to us what we look for, because our perceptual filters will be set towards those things we focus on. In spiritual work, it can apply to the quality of helpers we attract from spirit. Those with a desire to help others will attract those from spirit with the same desire.

It can also apply to the things we want and the way we want life to be. If you spend all your time thinking about what you don’t want to happen, you can actually attract that thing to you, because your perceptual filters will seek out those things that you focus on. So it is much more helpful when you find yourself focusing on what you fear, to turn it round to focus on what you want instead. For example, if you want a promotion at work, focus on getting it, not on failing to get it.

The same principle works for finding friends and partners. If you have had relationships in the past that have not worked out well, put aside any thoughts of repeating unwanted patterns and work out what you really want from the friendship/relationship. When you know what you are looking for, your perceptual filters are tuned to those things, so you will automatically seek them out.

The law of attraction is like attracts like and what you look for you will find.

They have appeared in many paintings and texts. There have been books written about them. And today they seem more popular than ever, as a source of healing, comfort and support.

Angels are thought to be messengers from God, not human beings but a race in their own right, with their own particular purpose. They are thought to be spiritual beings, each having a particular purpose. Some are tuned to healing energies, some to helping bring spiritual enlightenment, some to support in more practical issues of our lives.

Whether they exist or not is really a matter of belief. No one can actually prove one way or the other at the moment, but those who believe can tell you of the times the angels have helped them, and it is often difficult to find any other explanation than the one they offer. That an angel helped out.

So why not try it out for yourself? Next time you need some help, whether it be healing help, help to find something that is lost or even just help to find an empty car parking space, ask the angels, and trust that you will get what you want.

Let us know what you find.

Dates and Events that have influenced Spiritualism.

500 BC – Greek Philosophers
Greek philosophers Aristotle and Plato, influenced by Greek poet Pindar, establish the idea that the Soul is divine and would return after physical death.

1619 AD – French Philosopher
Rene Descartes, a French philosopher, believed that the body was an Organic Machine and would eventually stop and that the Soul was independent of the body, therefore could live on after the organic machine had stopped working. “I think, therefore I am”

1688 AD – Swedish Philosopher
Emanuel Swedenborg was born. He believed that Spirits wrote books through him. He met with the Queen of Sweden, who also believed in his revelations after meeting with him. This also made others in the country believe.

1848 AD – The Fox Family of America
The Fox Family owned a farm in New York, where they claimed bumps and taps were coming from the other side as a form of communication. The 3 daughters of the family developed a code so that they could communicate with the spirits. The sparked many other people who claimed to be able to communicate with spirits.

In 1888 Margaret confessed that their rappings had been a hoax and publicly demonstrated their method. She attempted to recant her confession the next year, but their reputation was ruined. Read more on Wikipedia.

1853 AD – First Spiritualist Church in UK
David Richmond founded the first Spiritualist Church in the UK.

1870 AD – Message Spreads from America
At this time the subject had been widely written about and communication with Spirits had become fashionable in the high society of England, Europe and of course America.

1882 AD – The Society for Psychical Research Founded
The Society for Psychical Research was founded, a group who set out to prove Scientifically, the claims one way or the other.

1898 AD – The Roman Catholic Churches Condemnation
In 1898 the Roman Catholic Church issued a Condemnation of the Spiritualist movement and all theories and ideas relating to it. Unfortunately for the Catholic Church, this helped the Spiritualist movement, by having Holy recognition that it existed, because you can not condemn something which is not real. Therefore proving it was no longer as important.
